“Someone stole our god”: Krobohene explains why he chose Jesus

Krobohene Nana Asa Akonpanin has explained why he and his community decided to dedicate their traditional stool land to Jesus Christ, saying the decision followed the theft of the community’s gods.

Speaking to journalists at an event in his community, the chief questioned how the traditional gods could protect the people when they themselves had been stolen.

“Someone stole our god, and if someone has been able to steal the god, how can it protect this community?” he asked.

Why the chief turned to Jesus

Nana Asa Akonpanin said the theft became a turning point for him and members of the community.

With the support of his subjects, he said, they decided to dedicate the traditional stool land to Jesus Christ and turn to God.

The chief said the community subsequently organised a major crusade, during which residents prayed for God’s mercy and sought forgiveness for any iniquities committed by them or their forebears.

He believes the decision marked the beginning of a significant transformation in the community.

Chief links decision to development

According to Nana Asa Akonpanin, the community has since experienced progress and development that had previously been lacking.

He said residents are now living happily, worshipping God and witnessing development in the community.

The chief attributed the positive changes to the community’s decision to accept God and expressed gratitude to his subjects for supporting his call.

He said their wholehearted support had helped make the decision successful, with residents now happy about the direction the community has taken.

Nana Asa Akonpanin’s account reflects his personal and community’s religious interpretation of the changes that followed. His claim that the decision directly resulted in subsequent development is a belief expressed by the chief and has not been independently established as a causal relationship.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged theft of the traditional gods were also not independently verified for this report.
